shibuya-ku, tokyo
That’s right, I had to hook my stupid laptop up to the webbanet because I am the unstoppable (and pitiable) mega nerd. Don’t worry, everyone else is either sleeping or watching t.v.
Tonight we met Chako and Tami’s relatives (Uncle, Aunt, Grandfather and Grandmother) at the swanky and very tasty Tempura Tsu Na Hachi at a shopping center named Marui Marui. That’s just been one huge helping of all the good food and fun I’ve had so far. All the rain from the incoming typhoon-ish weather has made shopping a little inconvenient but its a real vacation and a refreshing change from all the San Diego sunshine. (Let’s hope it dries up at least temporarily for a few bouts of skating while I’m at Toru’s from the 23rd to the 28th.)
I was trying to avoid loading up on gew gaws for everyone (just to make sure I have more than enough cash to drop on selfish little me right!?) but I suppose I’ll have some random souvenirs for a few folks – the 100 yen store helping out with that a bit. The Casio store where I got the cheap and stylish watches last time has been replaced witha a glasses shop. I’ll be on the lookout for other sources of the elusive Casio Film Watch.
The only other sadness so far was the discovery of the broken bottle of white vinegar that we were porting for Tami. Luckily a pair of gift jeans soaked up most of the mess and only a few outer cardboard packages had to be tossed during unpacking. Tami’s place is only a block or so away from a really cool alternative gallery with a cache of Murakmi, Nara and other (alternative?) contemporary artists’ books, gifts, toys, art etc. Very cute clean space.
Let’s hope I don’t jabber on anymore posts until I get back. I’m having fun. Tokyo is really cool in the rain. Should have packed the galoshes… or at least some waterproof socks. Not that I could have possibly packed anything more than I already did. The records I packed at Toru’s request definitely put me over my original self-imposed limit. Gotta get off… japanese TV is so cool.
