universal automation

I want that Jetson style automation for my web work. How do I get my act together to streamline my work universally like that?

I really want to get methods in place for streamlining workflow for web projects and create solid reusable systems, programs, scripts and objects. I’m currently satisfied with certain tools and scripts but my application of them is fairly adhoc. The more I learn the more I realize that there is always a trade off when you are adapting to specific uses and needs. Bloat and complexity vs. usefulness even in the smallest bits of code.

Maybe I just need to get better at coding from scratch. Otherwise, I need to really set down guidelines for what I need and the best extensible system to do things. The more I learn the more I tend to want to redesign other things I have done in the past. The two main directives in creating or redesigning always seem to be keep it simple and secure. Those usually combine to form beautiful, elegant and useful. Backwards compatibility and forward thinking about future needs are the sargasso sea that tends to suck wind from the sails, but otherwise we’d be in the Gobi dessert. (That is, no internet or computers, technology, etc.) Oh yeah, the more I learn the more I want and the fussier I get about features.

I suppose looking to M$ for hints about how not to do things is helpful. While I’m sure ASP.NET would be a great skill to have, I really don’t want to have anything to do with it. This article just popped up in front of me and really reminds me what M$ technology is really all about.

This is mostly just a dumb nerd rant to remind me to focus on doing work smarter not harder while keeping things in the spirit of community and open source. Low-rent stylee for the people. The true dream: Make money automatically while spending none doing good things for people and society. Right. Then I could take my easel down to the garage and make lame paintings.

Postscript: If I had any spare time I would work out a redesign of the turntablelab site so they can get rid of the frames.
