MS misery TM

Since the passing of the computer crash of ‘02 I’ve had to install software now and again. I’d been avoiding the installation of Microsoft Word 2000 and had attempted getting by with Open Office, which is a fabulous Open Source software product. Due to my extremely anal retentive nature and a bulleted list formatting glitch with a rather regularly used feature during the saving and opening of MS Word .doc files, I’ve had to temporarily revert to MS Word and reinstall the heinous beast. (I’m sure that the formatting error is most likely an kludge on the Microsoft end, but for the moment there is no work-around.)

It took at least 25 minutes and 3 reboots (all of which were prompted or caused by the installation routine) of my machine. I would seriously hate to know how long or how many machine restarts would be necessary to install additional components of Microsoft Works. (Yes I’m not using MS Office… good gracious. Do you think I would want to inflict any more pain on myself beyond what is necessary.)

Just       Microsoft       Word       ...       cripes man.

I really hope I can get back to using Open Office in the near future. When will I ever get SuSE up and running!? I haven’t even got the new harddrive in. Bugger all. Don’t dismiss Open Office, especially if you’re flexible with minor formatting alterations. It really is swell and the file sizes are extremely small when compared to the exact same MS Word file. Maybe Star Office from Sun Microsystems is even less glitchy the Open Office – so check that out too.
