surgery today
I probably should have been using this lousy website to chronicle my current health situation but I’ve been doing a lot of running around to deal with it and I’m sensitive about mouthing off in public about my privates.
I saw my general physician a little while back and later got an ultrasound which revealed something worrisome and prompted a second more detailed ultrasound from another doctor and a visit to a urologist. The mass found in my testicle warranted an orchiectomy so that pathology can be done and the extent of further treatment, if necessary, can be determined.
The good news is that the doctors have been great about expediting things and have been extremely thorough with explanations and answers. They believe I’ve caught it early and did a good job noticing something not extremely obvious. I was also able to get a second opinion cofirming that the procedure is necessary and that the urologist performing the procedure is excellent.
The brief outpatient surgery begins at 1:45 pm and should be over in an hour with the whole ordeal (prep time, waking up from general anesthesia) over in about three hours. I’m in good hands and I’ll definitely post an update when I find out more after pathology is done. I’m not worried, mad or scared and all that I’ve learned to now indicates that the treatments are extremely successful. Though I’m usually optimistic I’m just going to be neutral, but stick to being positive about the whole situation now and in the future.
If you are concerned about battles more notable people have had with this particular condition (perhaps Lance Armstrong or Harvey Pekar) they most likely have dealt with things at a much later and very advanced stage.
Thanks for you thoughts and prayers.
