CAT scan/X-ray update

About 12 hours ago I met with the urologist after he had a chance to review my scans (pelvic/abdomen CAT scan and chest X-ray). Everything came up clear. I should have posted this sooner but I’ve been in the midst of deciding to head off to Japan (which my urologist said was just fine). The Japan decision kicked off a mad frenzy of activity, certainly not lessened by the preparation for the upcoming fumigation of our apartment complex. Chako and I have lots of stuff to do at the last minute.

But back to the report. The final diagnosis was a Stage 1 Seminoma. All went according to plan through surgery and follow-up scans. The doctor indicated that everything was healing just fine after the operation. I must add that I am getting around quite well and can walk all day with no problem. I’m definitely not feeling the fragility of the first 2-3 days. However, sneezing still feels awful and I avoid it at any cost. I will not be skateboarding anytime soon and I’ve gotten one of those little, folding, luggage carts to truck my duffle bag around on. No stressing or straining for this lazy bugger.

The doctor indicated that I’m free to schedule the upcoming radiation treatment when I return. The treatment is intended to reduce the 15% chance that microscopic disease is still present. The urologist explained that it will occur over the course of 3 weeks; one brief, localized shot to the retroperineum/abdomen area every weekday during that three weeks and I’m done. Prior to the actual treatment I will be meeting with a Radiation Oncologist to discuss the details and schedule the treatment.

If I’ve been unclear about anything just ask a question or leave a comment and I’ll clarify. Apologies for the delay in this message but I’ve been busy with errands and errant details. Sooooo… Thanks so much for all the wonderful thoughts, prayers, calls, etc. Things are looking great and I better get back to work. Of course, the computer is coming with me so I’ll be checking email before too long.
