overdue update
As my brother John so kindly pointed out, I’ve been delinquent with details on my turbulent life. Here’s a brief run down:
I’m probably going to be saddled with the extra $1,500 from the original surgery site scheduling snafu. Poo poo on the parties involved but I’m pretty much over it. We’ll see what comes of any last ditch efforts on my part.
I’m currently working but have lots of interruptions concerning medical issues and relocation details. My new job is slated to begin January 10th. I’m hoping to get the move completed the week before but things are not yet concrete as I’ve begun my Radiation treatments this past Monday, January 6th. The actual dosage was begun Tuesday so I’m due for my third zap today. Final treatment is going to be December 30th. I get weekends and December 24th off. It’s a little longer than the initial 15 day plan that was suggested on my first consultation but the new doctor indicated that this extended plan should help mitigate short-term side effects and any long-term health concerns. So far nothing too awful but I sense I’ll be feeling a little peaked later on. I’ll try and get a snapshot of the Sid Mead-esque devices they’ve been using on me. Don’t get me started on the shielding device for my lower quadrant. Let’s just say it’s sturdy yet adjustable.
I spent November 30th through part of December 4th in Seattle looking for apartments. The first day was spent recovering from an all nighter and trying to organize myself and dig up some appointments. I found nice but expensive downtown options very close to work the 2nd day. A long and exhausting 3rd day revealed multiple possibilites that all had one severe deal killer or another, but I bumped into a decent more affordable place in Capitol Hill that was a bit far from work. A decent alternative to the pricey downtown option. The 4th day I had only secured one appointment in advance. The building in the Lower Queen Anne area turned out to be ideal and even had a view of Puget Sound. After a good deal of conversation and a bit of paperwork it should be ready and waiting for me when I arrive. The family managing the apartment building was so very friendly and helpful. Their warm welcome and kind words help me feel very positive about my arrival.
The day before I left for Seattle the UPS man arrived at my stoop with a shipment of cardboard boxes. [Insert ironic eyebrow arch here] 100, 13 inch cubed boxes are quite heavy but they should be more suitable for packing books and records than some of the odd shaped (and too large = too heavy) containers I’ve used in the past.
Lots to do so I’m back to work. I’ll leave you with a quick picture of the new place and the view. To all y’all who didn’t get a chance to enjoy sunny California, you’re more than welcome to visit me in rainy Washington, if everything goes according to plan.
