skate nerd post

I finally went skating today. It also explains why it’s 10pm and all I can do is moan and pick at my laptop keys from the futon. I knew it wasn’t going to go all that well when I fell about 6 times in the space of a block. I managed to make it to the Seattle skatepark near the Experience Music Project. All shapes and sizes were out there today and I got to chat a little with random kids. Some pretty talented folks were cruising around. I think I might even start heading out to the small basketball court across the street from the park to begin my rehabilitation into active life. Okay… so I shouldn’t go making assumptions until I get more of this work project accomplished.

Anyway, I tried to take it easy and came away relatively (relatively) unscathed. But that’s typical. I still dig the little skinny frail kids that will be quiet and unassuming but will sneak up and try someting new that lets the fearless youthfulness inside them shine. They’ll never know how hard it is to hang onto that when your bones start to get old. Which reminds me of another man.

Much respect to my one-legged Pops who, among countless other endeavors, navigated the treacherous Giant City Park trails when I was a wee teen and much more recently fought his way from the back 40 through our farm’s hills and brambles before I could rescue his mud-bound ford truck with the JD 3010. I don’t know how you keep rambling big guy. I’ll have to blame it on sheer stubborness and Mom’s skills at wielding a broom to activate your lazy posterior. Much respect part two goes to Greg’s rehab compilation. A bluesy, soulful and diverse gem with touches of jazz and classy but brassy refinement. True hootin’, hollerin’ and commiserratin’.

Compiled for Glen Waggoner’s knee replacement surgery February 2005, yet suitable for anyone familiar with the particular agony of knee problems

So this brings us to my remaining agenda for this evening: Taxes. I wish I could just empty my bank account and be done with it. To the receipts!

Keep an eye on the photo section for old (but possibly new to you) images now and again.
