supermarket sighting
So I’m in the vegetable section of my grocery store and the first thing I see is some guy looking at green leafy stuff and he glances at me and I think to myself, “I know this guy. I think he’s a doctor on that one show.” But then I think, there’s lots of dopplegangers and this fellow must be mistakenly accosted all the time.
But since it’s so slow in the market, it’s the perfect time to go to the store if you don’t want to be annoyed by people and I know I’m good at placing faces. Luckily while I’m browsing around grabbing random fruits and veggies our paths cross again and I hear just a few words from him while he’s speaking with his companion and my initial suspicion was confirmed. You really can’t mistake the way this guy talks. I’m definitely not at all into accosting famous folks. The pride in being recognized must turn to annoyance rather quickly. I’m sure most people want to shop for their arugula in peace.
I really dig his work, even if I’m not a rabid fan. He’s one of those low key characters that seems down-to-earth but interesting. It’s not like I know much about the craft of acting but I feel like he’s solid. I suppose it makes sense that I like him since I’m definitely a fan of his dad.
As a sidenote, he’s approximately the same height I imagined him to be. In comparison, the checkout clerk informed me that Willem Dafoe – another patron of the store at one time – is a really little guy. In my mind, all TV and Move personalities are exactly the same height as me. I’m curious how everyone else estimates the true height of celebrities.
As another note to myself I think I’ll list all the random celebrity types I’ve spotted in person and their scale relative to me. If you don’t know the name they’re either a musician or a skateborder. Mostly, this list is humorous because of the weird assortment.
Lady Miss Kier – not that big really, definitely shorter
Tom Waits – A bit shorter than me but pretty normal
Sinbad – TALLER!
Tricky – skinny little guy but not that short – shorter than me though
Winona Ryder – ultra petite but not tiny I suppose
Mad Lib – about the same height
Ed Templeton – about the same height
Mad Lib, Peanut Butter Wolf and Egon – Mad Lib is the biggest, the other two are not short but they’re skinnny like me but shorter
Actually, I’ve met or seen a shitload of well-known skateboarders in person:
Nate Lyons
Willy Santos
Andrew Reynolds
Paul Zitzer
Armando Barajas
Jesse Neuhaus
Patrick Melcher
Andy Macdonald
Justin Strubing
Billy Pepper
Ed Templeton
Neil Blender
Oscar Jordan
Jordan Richter
Satva Leung
So I’m thinking that this is some desperate attempt at trying to attach myself to coolness in someway. In reality, seeing all these folks reminds you that they’re all just a bunch of humans. The coolest of all was seeing Neil Blender skate and Ed Templeton draw. It’s nice to see and meet cool people who do good things.
