treadmill day 2

I’m not referring to my daily rat race. I’ve actually been to the gym. Chako has a workout room at the office building she works at. She’s been using it regularly after work with her cubicle mate Chis and sometimes in the evening with Linhchi. I finally got off my ass and joined Chak and Linhchi last Thursday and put every piece of equipment to use during the hour and a half we were there.

I’m not exactly mega macho man. The only weight training I’ve ever done has been during rehabilitation from some injury and some random wrestling related one-offs with Greg or Richard Carlisle or something along that line. I figure I can do all the working out I need to do by hefting myself around and doing pushups and similar calisthenics.

This time I think I’m happy to get out of the house and monkey around in the weight room. I like the soreness I feel the next morning as a signal of not being a total sedentite. My favorite machine was the treadmill. A little weird at first but overall a fun sensation. I can check out my gorgeous running form in the window as I slowly max out the running speed. The fastest you can go is a 9 which I think is mph but I can’t remember. The fastest mile you can run is over 6 minutes I think, though you can make that mile as hard as you like with a difficulty setting which simulates hills.

I think a 6 minute mile is a good enough starting point for me considering that I made it through my first mile at level 3. (I don’t remember the time but I started at a 4.5 speed and steadily increased to 9.) I think the difficulty level adjustment will provide enough challenge until my knees blow out. I do prefer to have the minutes-per-mile challenge to test myself against the old cinder track days but the workout room is a nice fun way to get me back in gear.

Today I’m taking it up a notch. Level 4, Speed 9. Awww yeah.
I hope Chris and Chako don’t need to call the ACL Emergency Repsonse Unit.
